Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has begun flight tests of the first serial transport-KC-390. According to the company, the first flight took place on 9 October 2018. The KC-390 is the heaviest aircraft ever developed in Brazil. Until the end of the year, the transport tanker must obtain a certificate from the National civil aviation Agency of Brazil, allowing no restrictions to operate in the airspace of the country, informs Rus.Media.

Developing the KC-390 is the Embraer since 2007. The project also involved the Czech Republic, Portugal, Colombia and Argentina. The preliminary design of the transport tanker was completed in 2012. In October 2014, the company Embraer in Gavan-Peixoto, state of são Paulo took place the rolled out the first prototype. The first flight took place in February of 2015. The KC-390 has a length of 33.4 meters, a height of 11.4 meters and a wingspan of 33.9 metres. The maximum takeoff weight of the airplane is 81 tonne.

The aircraft is capable of speeds up to 850 kilometers per hour and make flights to a distance of five thousand kilometers. The air force of Brazil plan to take the new aircraft into service in late 2018 – early 2019. In total, the Brazilian military has ordered 30 new aircraft, including two flight prototypes for testing. Except for Brazil’s KC-390 is going to adopt Portugal, which ordered five vehicles-tankers.
