Adopted a complete ban on the use of disposable plastic goods for which there is an alternative
The corresponding Directive was approved by the Council of the European Union, reports DW.
It is noted that this approval is the final step in the procedure of adopting the Directive, for which previously voted by the European Parliament.
“One of the main goals of this Directive is to reduce the amount of plastic waste that we create. Under the new rules, plastic plates, Cutlery, straws for drinking, holders for balloons and cotton swabs single use will be prohibited until 2021,” reads the statement.
In EU countries will be prohibited from using plastic utensils, wadded cosmetic sticks, straws for drinking. All of these things can be manufactured from other materials, for example-but today we use paper utensils, even straws for drinking also made of paper.
According to the Directive, until 2029 9 out of 10 used plastic bottles to be collected in the garbage sorted.
Plastic bottles, commercially available, up to 2025 must contain at least one quarter of material suitable for processing, and by 2030 — 30%.
In addition, the possibility to prosecute manufacturers of plastic products and to bring the tobacco industry for reimbursement of funds for the disposal of cigarette butts.
Not completely banned, but only limit the use of plastic products, for which environmental alternatives. This, for example, plastic cups and packaging for food products. The EU must take appropriate measures to deal with such waste and in the future to replace them.
On the packaging of some disposable products that contain a certain amount of plastic – in particular, wet wipes, women’s sanitary pads – always will be the guidance about negative effects on the environment.
