Imports of fresh, chilled and frozen meat of pigs in January-August 2018 amounted to 15.7 thousand tons, which is 7.5 times higher compared to the same period of 2017.
About it reported in a press-service of the trade Association Association of pig producers of Ukraine with reference to data of the state statistics and GFS.
According to estimates, in value terms, imports of pork from the beginning of the year amounted to almost $30 million.
However, over the three summer months was imported 10.5 million tons, which is 8 times more than in the corresponding period last year).
“Now seeing revenues of pork from abroad and modest exports (January-August 2018 to foreign markets, primarily Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Georgia – sent 1.3 thousand tons, 3 thousand tons less than in the corresponding period in 2017).
The reason for this growth was weaker pork supply in the country than last year and the closeness of domestic prices to the European, according to the Association.
At the same time, according to estimates of Ukrainian and international analysts, domestic production meets the needs of the domestic market in pork more than 90%.
“This means that consumers will consume a predominantly domestic pig meat. And the main recipients of foreign pork are the meat processors that optimize raw material costs,” – added in the Union.
Recall that in 2017 Ukraine imported pork for a total of $9.9 million, while exports amounted to $10.5 million
