Ukraine should be ready for a full cessation of transit of Russian gas from next year
This was stated by Executive Director of “Naftogaz of Ukraine” Yuriy Vitrenko in a new post published on his Facebook page. However, he warned that such a decision would involve serious threats for Ukraine.
According to him, we are talking about a sharp drop in domestic gas production. In particular, serious problems arise in controlled by the “Naftogaz” company “Ukrgazvydobuvannia”.
“If you compare the average daily production, which was achieved in December 2018, with data for June 2019, the drop in daily production of gas in “Ukrgazvydobuvannia” already is 9.2%. The first days of July show an even more alarming trend,” — said Vitrenko.
He stressed that the NAC is awaiting the termination of transit of Russian gas through Ukraine not only in the first quarter of 2020, but in General after the end of 2019.
Vitrenko stressed that “Naftogaz” will continue to maintain Russian gas transit after 2019, but the company will need the help of international partners. In particular, the NAC plans to bring the European Commission to negotiations on transit with Gazprom.
“I do not believe that this problem can be solved solely at the level of relations between “Gazprom” and “Naftogaz”, as long become obvious that the position of Gazprom on termination of transit through Ukraine is due to political factors, not economic,” said Executive Director of “Naftogaz”.
He also stressed that the Ukrainian company should retain the possibility of obtaining fair compensation for the loss of transit through the Stockholm arbitration court over what is now up and running.
