The launch of the electricity market from 1 July will become the first test for President Vladimir Zelensky
As reported by the Browser, said co-chair of the energy strategies Foundation Dmytro Marunych, the TV channel NewsOne.
“The market still need to run, because otherwise the consequences would be, to put it mildly, ambiguous. And it will be very good, from my point of view, not assessment, so the first test for Mr. Zelensky on which side he plays. Either on the side of some financial-industrial groups, or whole society”, — said marunych.
The expert recalled that the launch of the electricity market is an obligation of Ukraine before the European Union, in the event of default of which the country will receive this year’s macro-financial assistance from EU in the amount of 500 million euros. That would negatively affect financial stability in the country.
“If July 1 does not run the market, then Europe will be denied the next tranche of 500 million euros that we have to get this year, right now. And this can affect financial stability. Europe we will lose this support if we do not do their homework because of political intrigues”, — said Marunych.
In addition, the expert noted that the government has already taken a number of decisions that negate the possible risks when starting the market, and there is no reason to postpone it.
“The Cabinet Groisman has taken a number of measures that negate the effects. They really introduced these speckbacherstube, and the tariff for the population should not rise, which was the main threat,” said marunych.
Recall, the new electricity market needs to be introduced on 1 July 2019, in accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On electricity market”. The launch of the market – the obligation of Ukraine regarding the implementation of the EU Third energy package. This is one of the conditions of the cooperation program with the IMF and receiving macro-financial assistance from EU in the amount of 500 million euros.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman at the meeting of the Cabinet on 5 June said that the government will fulfill the Parliament adopted the law “On electricity market” and will launch the market from 1 July.
