(Sherbrooke) Unable to reach agreement with its employees, the Hotel President will close as planned the doors of his restaurant.
The hotel management had advised the 24 kitchen staff on May 6 that it would permanently terminate catering, banquets and type “American” buffet as of June 30, removing the same time their employment.
Although several conciliation meetings have taken place since between the employer, who suggested that the decision was not final, and the Teamsters union to represent the employees of the hotel, they have not not enough to save twenty jobs.
“The negotiations are very difficult,” agreed Wednesday union spokesperson Stephane Lacroix, who is the “unfortunate” situation.
At La Tribune employees had mentioned that this was “a surprise for everyone,” since there was no indication such a decision. No explanation had also been provided to employees by the director of the institution, Eric Faust.
The latter did not return the call of La Tribune on Wednesday.
The collective agreement of the 60 workers of the Hotel President expired in November 2015. The Teamsters wanted the salary of its members be increased to make up for the wage gap with the hotel industry workers in the area.
