(SHERBROOKE) After participating in a camp first major junior last year, Alex D’Orio is present in Saint John with the intention to fight for the position of number one.
The year of truth awaits former doorman of Magog Cantonniers. Or a “mega year” as he puts it.
“I do everything to get ready for the next camp, admits the first-round Sea Dogs in 2015. I approach it as if it was my first. I train with the guys now Attitude Hockey, as Jeremy Gregory and Frederick Aube. I intend to give everything to make a good impression. I can not wait to make my debut in the major junior. I watch the QMJHL games long time and I am motivated more than ever. ”
Now aged 21, Marc-Antoine Turcotte goalkeeper played his last season in juniors last year. This leaves his deputy of 19 years Alex Bishop at the Sea Dogs.
“Once I’m part of the team, I will focus on the goal of becoming number one. Until then, I just want to be a member of the team, “says D’Orio, who lived a great experience in Calgary at development camp of national team goalkeepers.
“I can barely camp. I was also in the same group as the custodian of the Phoenix, Evan Fitzpatrick, who is also my brother pension. I learned a lot coasting former professional goaltenders who now act as coaches, such as Dwayne Roloson, Jeff Reese and Fred Brathwaite. I also saw at work the guardians of under 20 years, because everyone was training together. It was very inspiring. ”
The Sea Dogs aim for top honors
The Sea Dogs will be considered among the favorites to lift the President’s Cup.
“This will be an important season for the Sea Dogs, because all our good players were 18 years last year. The team is now mature. The defense will be really amazing, especially if Thomas Chabot back with us, “says D’Orio.
Two friends together
Upon returning to the Maritimes, Alex D’Orio will feel less alone than last year at this time since former teammate Olivier Mathieu will debut with the Sea Dogs.
“I am pleased to welcome Olivier Mathieu Saint John. He’s a good friend of mine in Magog and I am sure he will be able to pull out of the game. There will be pressure on the shoulders since he was drafted in the first round, but it can do its place in the Sea Dogs in his first season, “believes Alex D’Orio.
“Alex told me how the Sea Dogs were an organization that has class, says Olivier Mathieu. Saint John has rarely had a difficult season and this time the team is cutting. At 16, I will do what the coach asks me. It’s funny because I was expecting to be drafted by Sherbrooke since I come from the region and Anderson MacDonald saw land in Saint John as it comes from there, but it’s just the opposite has occurred and I am very happy to join Alex, who will help me adapt more quickly. ”
