The mission of the International monetary Fund (IMF) will work in Kyiv in the period 6 to 19 September.
This was announced by the Fund’s resident representative in Ukraine Jost Longman, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
“At the request of the Ukrainian authorities, the IMF mission will visit Kyiv in the period from 6 to 19 September 2018 to discuss recent economic developments and economic policy”, – stated in the press release of the Fund.
According to Longman, the agenda of issues to be discussed Buda well as financial assistance from the IMF to support policies aimed at ensuring macroeconomic stability in Ukraine and further movement of the economy towards sustainable and inclusive growth.
Previously the managing Director of the Fund Christine Lagarde on 19 June 2018, said that the implementation of the preconditions concerning the price of gas is critically important for completing the current review of the IMF-supported program. According to her, the other two preconditions – make changes to the recently adopted law on Higher anti-corruption court and the limit of the budget deficit.
Recall that Ukraine is in a difficult negotiation process with the IMF on the gas issue since July of 2017: the Fund insists on raising gas prices for households to economically justified level. The increase, according to various estimates, can range from 30% to 60% in connection with growth of prices on international markets.
The government has so far refused to raise the price of gas for citizens, arguing that it is first necessary to provide expansion joints for the poor.
