A new study published in the European heart journal, argues that in matters of antyaja the best type of physical activity is cardio. Lessons of endurance, such as running, swimming or Cycling, slow down the aging process at the cellular level — and do it better, when compared with strength training like lifting weights in the gym.
German researchers divided 124 healthy but not very active person aged between 30 to 60 years 4 groups. One continued to live without exercise, and the other three were doing for 45 minutes three times a week for 26 days.
The group that was engaged in endurance training, running or walking. Participants who were engaged in high-intensity interval training, alternate fast and slow running. And athletes, who got strength training, worked with trainers.
The first 2 groups received from their workouts anti-aging effect. It was measured at the cellular level: the researchers studied the white blood cells of the blood taken before the start of training and a few days later after the final session.
Scientists discovered 2 important differences in these samples. Telomeres, that is the end of chromosomes, lengthened, and the number of telomerase — the enzyme responsible for maintaining telomeres — increased. Both indicators are very important in cellular aging: telomeres usually decrease with time, after which the cells die instead of continue to share. And this affects not only wrinkles and gray hair but also to heart disease, deterioration of cognitive function and even early death.
