To check on the appetite for risk is affected by five known tastes (salty, sweet, bitter, sour and umami), the scientists conducted three experiments, which was attended by 70 of the 71 British and Vietnamese.
Volunteers were asked to fill out a questionnaire to assess their tendency to impulsiveness and thrill seeking. Then they were each asked to drink 20 ml of liquid a taste and play a computer simulation of gambling. Control group I poured water.
