Rugby – France-New Zealand : reservists do not have to blush !

The image of Yoann Maestri and Henry Chavancy, who try to contain Liam Squire, the France team B managed a solid performance against New Zealand.

In Lyon, in a Groupama stadium, which has been full (60 000 people), it took a long time before they forget the context of this encounter looking like a “money machine” for the Federation, caught between two test-matches (see also). Yet, this “B-team”, combining players revanchards and “bizuths” desire overflowing, played without starting with the image of a beautiful first half (15-14) and the end of a match full of suspense (23-28, three runs scored).

But the young shoots of new zealand (six All Blacks competing for their first selection), which have the same ease of execution and the same physical power as their glorious elders, are able to contain the rage habs. This plume, so refreshing in the current context, which tears the French rugby union, blurs, however, a few more maps for the future : it’s hard for Guy Novès, after two games in four days, to identify a hierarchy among the international.

THE 1st HALF-TIME. The Blues, who clash !

From the beginning of the meeting, the Blue shirts white are evidence of the plume. Chat, a break, shown in example (3e), Danty rips the defensive in his turn but loses the ball on the ground (8th). The punishment is relentless : a succession of passes of the Blacks and a long sequence that culminates in the trial of Squire (11, 7-0). Five minutes later, the Blues responded. Cat is the initiative, Speeding succeeds his duel and sends Lacroix on orbit (16th). Trinh-Duc turns, and even (7-7).

Again, it is on the wing as Blues are pushed, allowing Dufy, already the holder against the Barbarians on Friday, marking the second test of new zealand (7-14, 26th). Danty then comes out on injury (27th) as Tauleigne (13th) a little earlier. But France has of the respondent. Lacroix, after an interception spectacular, offers a new test to the outcome of a splendid racing 80 metres (12-15, 29). A final penalty from Trinh-Duc allows the Blues to return to the locker room with a point behind (14-15).

THE 2nd HALF-TIME. The tide of “black” and the revolution habs

At the resumption of the game, the All Blacks accelerate. They monopolize the ball but the block habs resists : the fray French offers a penalty (47th), Danty flows to prevent Harris flatten (51st). But the Blues eventually crack it and can do nothing in the face of the power of Tuipulotu, served by Kerr-Barlow within five meters (15 to 21, 52). The new zealand impose their law, unrelenting, and Rattez fails to prevent Laumape to register a new test (57, 15-28).

The entry of Plisson gives the pace : the Parisian sign a penalty (62nd, 18-28) before attempting a breakthrough (68th). The team of France benefits from being in numerical superiority (yellow card of Goodhue (69th) to develop his game. Macalou manages to rip the defensive and Chavancy, support, and concludes with the opportunity (73rd, 23-28). The end game is panting, the Blue ones give all but the All Black are resisting and are able to impose. “It was a great team in front has welcomed the end of the match Steve Hansen, the current coach of new zealand.

THEY HAVE IMPRESSED. Lacroix and Macalou, it takes your breath away !

A breath of fresh air has blown over the Blue and “bizuths” have insured. This is the case for Gabriel Lacroix. For the past two years, it is one of the managers of the Stadium, la rochelle, one of the teams in the Top 14 developing the best game of the moment. With a physical atypical for a winger (1,71 m, 80 kg), Lacroix demonstrated anticipation and reading of the game this Tuesday night, shown by his two tries in the first half.

The enthusiasm is shared for the benefit of Sekou Macalou, the third line of the Stade français. His activity and his mobility in defence has been good to the Blues, like when he manages to push in the button, Seta Tamanivalu, which was travelling in the in-goal (23rd). Just before the break, it is again decisive in chipant a ball in front of Luke Whitelock. In the 2nd half-time, it is his long ride (72nd), which is then allowed Chavancy to flatten a new trial. As Lacroix, it is very likely that it will taste again the joys of international matches.

What a monster Macalou… Impossible to get pass this profile by EDF

THE CONTEXT. A money machine ?

Daniel Herrero, which has the meaning of the formula, explained last week at the that the France-New Zealand between teams reserves has the allure of a ” game not recognized “. This meeting, three days after the first test against New Zealand (lost 18-38) and four before the second against the South Africa, is indeed a fluke in the calendar of international matches. The international Federation did not even qualified to “test-match” since the meeting was initially intended to be used to promote the candidacy of the France World cup 2023. Besides, the ambassadors of the bid, including Frédéric Michalak, Pascal Papé, and Sébastien Chabal, gave the kick-off.

This is mostly to fill the coffers of the Federation is expected to harvest about 2 million euros of recipe this evening (by removing the sum promised to the All Blacks and the rental of the Groupama Stadium). In this logic, the mercantile, even the television viewing habits of viewers have been upset because the game was co-broadcast on TMC and BeInSport.

The IMAGE. The haka and the chills !

Unlike last Saturday at the stade de France, the haka was not punctuated by whistles from the fans tricolor. Led by the scrum half Kerr-Barlaw, it was the Ka Mate, the version of “traditional” haka. The public lyon was heartily applauded this ritual always as intense.

FOR THE NEXT GAME. South Africa in flat resistance !

Next Saturday, the Blues return to the Stade de France for a “real” test matches. The programme : the South Africa which had swept three times last June (37-14, 37-15, 35-12). The meeting promises to be very relieved, especially as the Springboks were touched in their pride, since their arrival in Europe a few days ago. In fact, last Saturday, they were overtaken and have faltered against Ireland (38-3). Hard to imagine the South african experience a second disappointment. The Blues are warned !
