This was stated by the head of the Department for external Church relations Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, who spoke about the outcome of the meeting of the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church in Minsk. “On session of the sacred Synod the decision was made to complete the gap of communication with the Constantinople Patriarchate,” he said. “It was a forced decision, but another solution could not accept our Holy Synod, as it led the whole logic of the recent actions of the Constantinople Patriarchate,” said the Metropolitan.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Synodal Department for Church and society and mass-media Vladimir Logogallery that the ROC will interrupt the communication with Constantinople, if Constantinople Patriarchate would grant autocephaly to the Ukrainian Church.
On 11 October, the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate lifted the anathema from the heads of the two Ukrainian non-canonical churches. We are talking about the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church Kyiv Patriarchate. The Synod also expressed a desire to return to the Kyiv Metropolitanate to the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the continued granting of the Tomos of the Ukrainian Church.
In the ROC these actions have considered the legalization of the secession and said that it threatens disastrous consequences for the Orthodox world.
