Auction house Sotheby’s will auction one of the 17 copies of a unique Maserati Barchetta built for African Grantrofeo Monomarca Barchetta Maserati in the 90-ies. Double outdoor sports car was the last project of the then head of the Italian brand, Alejandro de Tomaso.

Based on the Maserati Barchetta lies a tubular frame made of light alloys and composite materials. Partitions made of magnesium. The composite body is made from aluminum, carbon fiber and fiberglass. Weight Barchetta — a total of 775 kilograms. Sports car equipped with two-liter V6 engine with two superchargers, the output of which is 320 horsepower and six-speed transmission.

At the time, Maserati’s Barchetta could be considered the fastest monocalcium race car. From standstill to 100 kilometers per hour car accelerates in 4.4 seconds. Maximum speed was 270 miles per hour.
