A group of councilors returned to the charge during the plenary session on Tuesday afternoon to demand presentation of the officials on the municipal arenas deployment plan.
In June, the Councillor and Chairman of the Committee on Sports, Recreation and Community Life Gatineau, Marc Carrière, demanded that this plan be presented to elected officials, something that had to be done last fall, according to a resolution adopted in June 2015 . Mayor Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin, had indicated that the request was “a waste of time.”
On Tuesday, the board had to decide on an investment of $ 3.6 million to convert ammonia to the cooling system of arenas Duchesnay and Robinson, in the Aylmer sector. Annoyed to invest in these arenas without knowing the inventory of all of these infrastructures, Councillor Denise Laferrière has banked a resolution demanding a presentation on the deployment plan.
Mr. Jobin-Pedneaud reiterated that he had to let the officials conclude negotiations with Vision Multisports Outaouais on the new arena Guertin before adding them to the task on the shoulders.
Despite the opposition of the chief magistrate, the resolution was added to the agenda of the council meeting and then adopted in the evening.
Sign that the end is near in the saga Guertin, the mayor has however indicated its intention to support the resolution, in the afternoon, since it gave the officials until late fall to make the presentation. “This is what we will do, anyway,” suggested Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin.
The Career counselor welcomed the turn of events, claiming that making public the deployment plan of municipal arenas, the City will begin consultations on the next steps.
“We need experts in the field, hockey associations, figure skating, ringette and others to pronounce, it is they who must be consulted, it is they who must make recommendations to the Board. ”
