The NATO summit confirmed the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Ukraine. This is stated in the Declaration of the NATO summit in Brussels on Wednesday, July 11.
The document notes that an independent, sovereign and stable Ukraine, which firmly adheres to the principles of democracy and the rule of law is key to Euro-Atlantic security.
“We firmly believe that Ukraine has the right to decide their own future and foreign policy course free from outside interference. Given Ukraine’s aspirations to NATO membership, we adhere to our decisions at the Bucharest summit and subsequent summits,” reads the Declaration.
The summit participants stressed that the success of large-scale reforms in Ukraine, in particular in the fight against corruption, will be crucial for laying the foundations for a prosperous and peaceful Ukraine, firmly anchored among European democracies that aspire to common values.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that Ukraine and Georgia as the closest partners of the Alliance will receive political and practical support.
