The Chairman of political Council of party “Oppositional platform For life” Viktor Medvedchuk demands from the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky and his team to fulfill his promise to give the people the right to govern.
This statement Medvedchuk made in connection with the publication of the Sociological group “Rating” the results of a survey conducted from 28 September to 1 October this year: 73% of Ukrainians oppose the President’s initiative to open the land market. And the sale of land to foreigners support only 13%, against 81% of respondents.
“74% of Ukrainians believe that the decision to sell agricultural land should be taken solely on the referendum,” ‒ said the politician. He added: “These opinion polls are not just devastating for the President’s team, they put a cross on trying to see reformers in turbo mode to run the sale of agricultural land. The President, who in his election campaign promised that his first bill will be the bill “About democracy”, has no moral right to ignore the will of the people”.
Medvedchuk said that his party developed and introduced to the Verkhovna Rada a draft law № 1123 “On all-Ukrainian and local referendums on popular initiative”. The bill has passed the public discussion and has the support of the society.
The politician is convinced that the strategically important issues should be decided by national referendums.
“The President is obliged to fulfill his campaign promise and to hear from people. And today Ukrainians clearly and categorically say “no” to opening up the market of the earth!” ‒ said Medvedchuk.
