(Sherbrooke) Major work is planned this fall on the bridge overpass on the Galt West and Wellington spanning the South streets and Grandes-Fourches. This is in fact the extension of the Joffre Bridge on Galt Street West.
The bridge, with a length of 187 meters, belongs to the City of Sherbrooke and is part of the municipal system. The work will be under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport of Quebec (MTQ), which launched a tender to this effect, since it takes care of everything on structural maintenance in Quebec.
Sidewalks and parapets remain under municipal jurisdiction. Because the City must also carry out works, an MOU is being negotiated.
It is among others necessary to repair the expansion joints, the panel and batteries. A membrane will be installed between the asphalt and the slab. It will thus also paving work, not counting the parapets, which will be repaired.
“The goal is to begin work in late summer. The estimate provides for a period of about 14 weeks, “says Nadège Tessier, communications advisor to the direction of the Eastern Townships MTQ.
For the duration of the work, the contractor shall maintain a minimum of two traffic lanes. It will be necessary to close the bridge overpass on some occasions. To minimize impacts, closures will be scheduled in the evening or at night. Similarly, the Wellington South ramp toward Galt East will also experience closures in the evening or at night.
According to the tender, the work is estimated at between $ 1 and $ 5 million.
