The state statistics service has published data on the consumption structure of food products in Ukraine
As reported by the state statistics Committee, retail trade of food products sold 289.7 billion in 2018.
Most Ukrainians spend on meat, poultry and sausages, their share is 11%.
For meat products are sugar confectionery and 7.6%, then milk and milk products – 6,1%.
6.9 percent occupied tobacco products.
Vodka and alcoholic beverage products accounted for 5.1%, beer – 5,3%, wine 2.4%, cognac – by 1.6%.

The Ministry of agrarian policy and food noted that the introduction of EU standards is one of the strategic directions of development of the food industry, says “Hvilya”.
The “Ukrainian food industry is a powerful industry in agriculture, but we see a huge potential for development. Introducing new standards and systems of quality management in enterprises moving from export of raw materials to export finished products, we provide a new level of competitiveness of Ukrainian goods, contribute to the expansion of markets and improving the credibility and image of Ukraine as a whole”, – said Elena Kovaleva, Deputy Minister of agrarian policy.
Now the food industry provides one-fifth of industrial production of Ukraine. So, in 2018 the volume of sales of food, beverages and tobacco products reached 504 billion, or 20.1% in total volume of industrial products sold.
To resolve the marking of products according to the norms of the European Union Parliament adopted a law in late 2018, providing a large number of changes:
set a minimum font size of 0.9 mm, the text must be legible, do not overlap different graphic elements and to blend in with the background;
must be given information about food additives and auxiliary substances that cause allergic reactions or intolerance. This information should stand out in a different color;
necessarily indication on the packaging about whether a food product defrosting. Menu cafes, restaurants and other catering establishments will also need to define the allergens in the dishes;
information about the nutritional value of some products had become unnecessary. This provision applies to products that are “not recycled or for which the nutritional information is not the determining factor in making consumer decisions about their purchase”;
fresh fruits and vegetables, alcohol, bread and sweets, and also salt, sugar and vinegar may not specify the shelf life;
if necessary, we will specify the storage conditions under which the product will not lose its properties;
all of the above information must be disclosed when selling goods online;
if a food product is not stored for more than three months, the date is sufficient to indicate the day and month of production.
If a food product is stored more than three months but less than 18 months, the date is sufficient to indicate the month and year, but if the product is stored for more than 18 months of the date sufficient to indicate the year of production.
