Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on the inhabitants of the country exchange dollars and euros into the national currency is the Turkish Lira.
On it informs Agency Reuters.
“If your pillow has dollars, get them. If you have Euro, get them. Immediately put them in banks and convert into Turkish Lira, and so we will fight in the war for independence and the future,” Erdogan said.
Earlier Friday, the new Finance Minister of Turkey, Erdogan’s son-in-law Berat Albayrak announced a new economic approach, however it has not helped the Turkish Lira, which is in free fall.
As reported, the Turkish Lira, which depreciated by a third on concerns of the broader Erdogan’s control over the economy, Friday has fallen in price by 18% more than 2001. This happened on the background of statements by the President of the United States Donald trump of doubling customs tariffs on Turkish steel and aluminium.
In late July, trump has promised Turkey “big sanctions” for the detention of an American pastor. Since there was no response, last week the US imposed sanctions, including against the head of the Ministry of justice of Turkey Abdulhamit gül and interior Minister Suleyman Soylu.
In this regard, Erdogan said that the actions of the United States “dealt a blow” to relations and had reached a point when to repair them is almost impossible.
