According to experts, alcohol cause 1 in 20 deaths, driving while intoxicated, the associated violence and numerous diseases, including disorders of the cardiovascular system, liver cirrhosis and some cancers. In addition, alcohol increases the risk of disease infections such as tuberculosis, HIV and pneumonia.
Three-quarters of all deaths related to alcohol, are men. In addition, a large proportion of deaths (13.5%) among young people aged 20-29 years accounted for the effects of alcohol abuse.
According to who estimates, approximately 237 million of the 46 million men and women suffer from alcohol dependence. On average, 2.3 billion people drink 33 grams of pure alcohol per day. This is equivalent to about two glasses of wine or large beer bottle.
