Vladimir Voinovich was born in Stalinabad, 26 Sep 1932, where after the arrest of father lived until 1936, with his mother, grandfather and grandmother. In early 1941 my father was released and the family moved to his sister in Kiev. During the Second world war he served in the Crimea.

In the late 1960-ies Voinovich took an active part in the movement for human rights, which caused conflict with the authorities.

For his human rights activities and is a satirical depiction of Soviet reality, the writer was subjected to persecution: for him set up surveillance of the KGB in 1974 was expelled from the writers ‘ Union of the USSR. Was accepted as a member of the PEN club in France.
