We knew Mathieu Valade, Cindy Dumais and Julien Boily participate at Art Athina, an international event held in Athens, where they will visit on their own. What was not known is that three other artists from the region will be represented at the initiative of the Centre Bang.
These lucky winners are Jean-Jules Soucy, Magali Baribeau-Marchand and Caroline Fillion. The Baieriverain will be present with his works, while his sisters will travel along with the Artistic Coordinator Anick Martel. From May 26 to 29, they will welcome visitors at the stand reserved by the artists’ center established in Chicoutimi.
The selection of artists was made by Bang programming committee. “It seeks to present recent works, easy to transport and of interest to the international art market. It is also an opportunity to show what Bang, what is its role “said Anick Martel.
Each Bang guests have a wall to display their work. Caroline Fillion hang paintings made in recent months, while Magali Baribeau-Marchand spare a place fanzine she runs, Rabbit Rabbit, as well as a new series that led him to work on existing photographs.
As for Jean-Jules Soucy, whose work is so dense, so multiform, he will live in Athens through some representative creations of his concerns and his way, so singular. “There will be digital works from his series of Mona Lisa, plus a piece referring to Michael ANJELL-o,” reveals Anick Martel.
To illustrate the importance of Art Athina, note that last year, 40,000 visitors have thrown a look. This fair is one of the most important with respect to contemporary art. “You can participate by invitation and in the case Bang, it stems from a series of commitments internationally,” said Anick Martel.
