Aerosol spraying to combat global warming will reduce crop

Аэрозольное распыление для борьбы с глобальным потеплением снизит урожай

All the advantages of this method, overlap of lower yields from the effects of the blackout, the researchers note.

A group of scientists from the University of California, Berkeley, led by Jonathan Proctor conducted a study in which tested the effectiveness of the method of stopping global warming by spraying aerosol particles in the atmosphere. About it writes portal Nplus1.

Researchers took statistics of yield of wheat, corn, rice and soybeans during the period from 1979 to 2009. In the end they managed to figure out how the spraying of such particles affects agriculture. It turned out that the emission of aerosols was to reduce the yields of rice and soybeans almost 5%, and corn – by 9.3%.

Of course, the decrease was partially offset by a decrease in the temperature of plants, but in the long term this would lead to a deterioration of the illumination. Their study, the researchers wanted to prove that we should abandon the spraying of aerosols. According to them, before starting such experiments, we need to assess the benefits, costs and risks of such projects.
