Wôlinak — the parade of The Project W will celebrate, for the sixth year, the cultural richness of the abenaki. The young participants of the parade will have the opportunity to present their creations.
Between the ages of 2 to 17 years, budding designers will also have the opportunity to parade on the catwalk wearing their pieces inspired by the traditions of their nation.
The designers have first and foremost had to choose a piece of clothing among the many elements that make up the traditional dress abenaki. For making, every detail counts. The color of the beads to the origin of feathers, the animals chosen, as each element has a meaning in the culture.
“This event has for purpose to demonstrate to the people of the region know-how of these young people and to witness the strong feelings of belonging and pride developed through their involvement in this project,” emphasizes Jenny Me Sadoques Benoit, co-lead of the Project W.
